What does garage epoxy flooring cost in Halifax?
Most garage epoxy floors we install fall between $2,500 and $6,500. For a typical two-car garage with a full flake system, you’re usually looking at around $4,250 installed.
The final price depends on a few things:
- the condition of the concrete
- cracks, pitting or spalling that need repair
- moisture in the slab
- an existing coating that needs to be removed
- stairs or stem walls
- the size of the garage
- travel outside our normal service area

When you’re comparing quotes, don’t look at price alone. Ask how the concrete will be prepared, what coating system is being installed, what topcoat is being used and what the warranty actually covers. Those details usually explain most of the difference between two quotes.
Why garage floors fail in Nova Scotia
Garage floors around Halifax have a rough life.
During the year they deal with hot tires, road salt, winter brine, freeze-thaw cycles and moisture coming up through the concrete. If the slab isn’t prepared properly before it’s coated, those conditions can expose the problem pretty quickly.
Here are some of the issues we see most often.
Hot tire pickup and why DIY floors peel
Your tires stay warm long after you've parked.
As they cool, they're sitting against the same spots on your garage floor. If the coating is too thin, hasn't cured properly or was finished with the wrong topcoat, that heat can soften the coating. When you back out, part of the floor can come with the tire.
It's one of the most common failures we see with hardware-store kits and basic single-coat paint systems.
For flake and solid-colour floors, we finish with a polyaspartic topcoat. Metallic floors are finished with polyurethane. Both are selected to stand up to normal vehicle traffic and warm tires once the system has fully cured.
Road salt, brine and Nova Scotia freeze-thaw cycles
Halifax winters are especially tough on concrete because temperatures often move above and below freezing.
You can see the effect everywhere by the end of winter.
After the freezing-rain event in early February 2022, Halifax's pothole repair list jumped from 384 to 630 in roughly two weeks.
Your garage slab deals with a smaller version of the same problem.
Salt and brine drip off your vehicle and work their way into open pores in the concrete. When that moisture freezes and expands, the surface starts to deteriorate. Over enough winters, you can end up with scaling, pitting and spalling.
A properly bonded and sealed coating keeps that mess on the surface, where it can be rinsed away, instead of letting it soak into the slab.
Moisture coming up through the concrete
Concrete might look completely dry from the top while still holding moisture underneath.
Because your garage slab sits on the ground, moisture can move upward through the concrete as vapour. If enough pressure builds beneath a coating, it can eventually cause bubbling, blistering or delamination.
We check every slab with a concrete moisture meter before we start, so the decision to prime is based on a reading rather than a guess. When a garage needs it, we install a moisture-barrier primer before the main coating system.
Dusting concrete, laitance and control joints
If your garage floor constantly leaves a fine white dust behind, there's a good chance you're seeing laitance.
Laitance is the weak surface layer that forms when concrete is finished. If you coat directly over it, the coating is really bonding to that weak layer instead of the solid concrete underneath.
That's why we grind every floor before coating it.
Control joints also need proper attention. Those are the straight lines cut into the slab to help control where the concrete cracks.
Grinding takes care of the weak surface layer. Proper joint preparation takes care of the other problem.
Both matter if you want the finished floor to last.
How we install your garage floor
A durable garage floor is mostly about what happens before the decorative finish goes down.
Here’s what our installation process looks like.
Grind and prepare the concrete
We mechanically diamond grind the slab to remove weak surface material, old coatings and contaminants while creating the profile the new coating needs to bond properly.
Repair cracks and damaged areas
Cracks, holes, pitting and spalled concrete are repaired with compatible materials before the coating system is installed.
Test the slab and prime when needed
We take moisture readings across the slab with a concrete moisture meter. If the concrete is holding enough moisture to put the coating at risk, we install a moisture-barrier primer before the base coat goes down.
Install the epoxy and decorative finish
A commercial-grade epoxy base coat goes down first. From there, you can choose: full flake, metallic, solid colour. For flake systems, the vinyl flakes are broadcast heavily into the wet coating to create full coverage and natural texture.
Apply the protective topcoat
Flake and solid-colour floors receive a UV-resistant polyaspartic topcoat. Metallic floors receive polyurethane. Once the system has cured, we'll walk through the finished floor with you and explain cleaning, maintenance and when it can safely go back into service.

Full Flake
Our most popular option. Flake floors have natural texture, hide everyday dirt and minor scuffs well, and work especially well in garages that see regular vehicle traffic. Choose from a range of colour blends to match the garage and the rest of your home.
Metallic
For a more custom, showroom-style finish. Metallic systems use multiple colours to create depth and movement across the floor, which means every installation comes out a little different. Nick works personally on metallic installations.
Solid Colour
Clean, simple and consistent. A good option when you want a straightforward finish without decorative flakes or metallic movement.
Need more grip?
Silica sand or quartz aggregate can be added for additional traction on sloped floors, stairs or other areas where you want a coarser finish.
What to expect before and after installation
Before we arrive, the garage needs to be completely cleared so the crew can access the entire floor.
You’ll also need somewhere else to park your vehicles while the coating is installed and curing.
A few things to know:
- We need access to the garage and a working electrical outlet.
- Mechanical grinding is the loudest part of the job.
- The garage door will usually remain open during much of the installation.
- Children and pets need to stay off the floor while it cures.
- We’ll walk through cleaning and maintenance with you once the floor is finished.
Most residential garage floors are ready for light foot traffic within 24 hours. We recommend waiting at least 72 hours before parking vehicles on the finished floor.
The exact timing can change depending on temperature and humidity, so we’ll give you the schedule for your specific floor before the job begins.
A typical two-car full-flake garage takes approximately 2 days on site.
