Founded in 2020, Top Coat Epoxy Coatings has become one of Atlantic Canada’s most trusted names in epoxy and polyaspartic coating systems. Behind every project is a commitment to craftsmanship, connection and quality. At the centre of it is our founder, Nicholas MacKenzie, or as most people know him, Nick.
Meet Nick
A born and raised Lower Sackville local, Nick started out sealing driveways and concrete during high school to earn extra income. What began as a side job turned into a genuine interest in surface protection. Frustrated by how quickly traditional sealers broke down, he found epoxy coatings, a system that held up far longer, looked better, and gave homeowners and businesses real value for the money.
Nick spent years learning the craft on jobsites across Halifax and beyond. That hands on experience, and a refusal to cut corners on prep, is what grew Top Coat into one of Atlantic Canada’s most reputable epoxy coating companies.
Nick runs the company day to day and trains every installer who joins the crew. He still handles quotes when his schedule allows, and he works on the floor alongside the team, most often on large jobs and metallic installs.
Our Crew
Top Coat runs nine installers across three crews. Two crews work out of Lower Sackville and cover the Halifax Regional Municipality and the rest of Nova Scotia. Our third crew is based in Moncton and covers New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Every installer is a Top Coat employee, trained personally by Nick on our systems and prep standards.

Kings Mutual Century Centre, Berwick
A custom flake blend mixed to match the facility’s brand colours, installed across floors and stairs, with lane striping on the walkways. A multi-use arena takes constant foot traffic in hard footwear, so the floor has to hold up while still looking like it belongs to the building.
Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria, North End Halifax
Flake flooring through the kitchen and basement, plus a grind and seal in the dining room. The owners wanted to keep the exposed courtyard style concrete they already liked, but without the dust and the hard cleanup. That is exactly what grind and seal is for.
Holiday Inn Express, Kearney Lake
An indoor pool resurfaced in ocean blue epoxy. Pool areas are constantly wet and constantly walked on, so the coating has to handle moisture and traffic at the same time.
Sustane Technologies, Halifax
3,500 square feet of high impact flooring for an operating warehouse, followed by cross hatch safety boxes around four electrical panels and epoxy safety striping for the walkways. Striping applied in epoxy stays put, so the lines do not need repainting every year.
